My grandmother has an antique trunk (her grandmother's hope chest) that she's looking to get restored/refurbished. Its made of metal, and has some leather straps that need replacing. Also, the inside is just carboard and I think she'd like to put fabric in it. What kind of business should I take this trunk to in order to get it fixed up? I know nothing about antiques, and have absolutely no idea where to begin.
First thing to do is find out the value. Any value it has will be destroyed by doing anything to alter it. If it has no antique value call an interior decorator. They will know if there is anyone around that does that type of thing.
