The jems are super costume jewelry, tacky lookin, all different colors. There was a treasure chest you could stick the jems into the sides of it once you tumble them. I can't remember for the life of me!
They are just plain old rock tumblers.

You're thinking of "Treasure rocks" I believe. They came in a coating that looked like rock but dissolved in water so you'd end up with fake plastic jewels which you could then snap into fixtures to make rings or necklaces.
