I have a Lane Cedar Chest that belonged to my grandmother. When we moved it the back leg cracked. How can I find a good antique furniture repair place? What questions should I be asking? I know these chests are worth money and I want to limited the decrease in value from the crack and repair job.
The chest is from the 1930's and they hold up well over time. Any good quality piece is worth money if cared and maintained properly. I see it's worth beyond $$$$. This was something my grandmother owned and I remember it from my childhood times with her. My grandmother never liked having her photo taken, so this chest is a visual rememberance of her for me.
I would probably try to fix it myself, but if you want to restore it professionally I would go here:

They seem to know what they're doing, and the furniture on their site is gorgeous.
Good luck hon!

A good cabinet maker should be able to reproduce a leg if you can give him one to copy. If the broken leg cannot be used, then remove one of the good legs to use as a template. Lookup cabinet makers on the web or yellowpages

Yea - they are nice chests, but it is not the "investment" you seem to think it is - try selling it and you will find that it is just used furniture. A cabinet maker would be able to fix it - you could try yourself with Elmer's Wood glue - water based and easy cleanup.
