I wonder which would be more beneficial and useful to have a changing table or dresser/chest in the nursery?
I would say a dresser chest!! I have a change table and honestly I haven't even changed my daughter once on there! We are always in the living room and I end up changing her on a change mat right on the floor. Especially when the baby gets bigger and starts to roll she/he isn't going to want to lay still while you go about your business..they will need something to keep them occupied such as the TV, toys, hanging onto something! I really wish I would've bought a dresser and hutch because I would've stored her clothes in the dresser instead of having a change table and dresser in her room and on the hutch to display pictures and her "firsts" like coin collections, etc..Good luck and I highly think the dresser/chest will be more beneficial!

I used my babys dresser as a changing table. Just put the pad from a changing table on the dresser. This does not work well when baby is older tho.

Dresser/chest for you can change the baby onm the bed, crib and any other place. The changing table just last for 4 to 5 months and its a waste of money

I had a changing table with my first baby–it turned out to be nothing but a dust collector–never used after the first week.
With the second baby I got a long, waist high dresser at a thrift store for $12.00. I put a rail around the top to prevent any rolling off (It cost $10.00 for the rail and one afternoon to install it and stain and varinish it). I then made a pad for the top that matched all the other stuff in the nursery. That was the best investment of time I think I have ever done.
That baby is now 22 years old and still using the dresser (without the changing pad on it of course).

They now sell changing tables that later turn into dressers. I thought it was a better bargain for the money… the best website that I found was csnbaby.com.

I LOVE my changing table. A few friends tried to talk me out of one, saying the dresser would work just fine. Well, I don't know where I would have stored the MANY things needed for baby without it. Mine is totally open with two shelved below the changing area. I lined large baskets with fabric and they now hold all of the essentials–one for big diapers, one for little diapers (I have two babies) One for overnight diapers, one for packs of wipes, one for burp clothes, etc. It is so wonderful!
Also, I once saw on TV how to very easily turn a changing table into a potting table for plants and I plan on doing it!
Good luck with that litle bundle!!

Dresser/chest.
The baby will grow out of the changing table fast & you can change a baby anywhere, but the dresser can be used for many years & you'll need somewhere to store the baby's things.

dresser/ chest I never used my changing table, the changing table is for people who have c-section and can't bend down to change the baby, or people with bad backs, it's seriously pointless. I have two children and I do live without a changing table and we are living fine without it.

I say the dresser/chest as a parent and a grandparent I have changed more baby's on the floor or on the bed it is not funny. I dont like changing tables once the child can roll as there are times they are very fussy and need to be changed and I dont like to worry about them falling off.

Definitely a dresser/chest. Purchase a good changing pad for the top. Change table you have to get rid of eventually. A dresser/chest is part of their room for a very long time.

They have combinations of the two!! You just buy a foam pad that's scooped in the middle and has a belt, and set it on top of the dresser part.
Here's a link to target that shows you what i'm talking about:

Have you looked into the pieces that are a combination of both? We got a great piece at Pottery Barn Kids that is a combination of a diaper table and a dresser and it has great storage underneath. They have a variety of pieces to choose from:

I know that Pottery Barn is a little on the pricey side so you can also check out Babies R Us if it is out of your price range:

We thought that the dresser styles would be more practical and that our girls could grow into the furniture. They have great storage especially if you have limited closet space (which we do in our baby room!) Anyway that's my 2 cents, hope it's helpful
