lately on occasion, my 8 month old chinese crested powder puff has been rubbing his ear on furniture. My mom checked his ears and they are normal, his ears aren't funny smelling or have pus in his ears and hes not putting his paws on his ears either. Whats wrong with him?
Hi Alice
I agree with dale, sound like an itch. Have you checked the length of his inner ear fur/hairs? It could be something as simple as an irritation.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackHis ears are itchy, or he has something in them (could be a grass awn or something deep down).

He's just rubbing his ear, cats do that to, also there are sent glands of the ear, he is marking his territory- its not bad.

There is something you can buy over the counter to clean his ears, but in the meantime, you can get a couple of Q-Tips (one for each ear), slightly moisten the tips with water and clean his ears to see if there's any debris in the ear canal. Be careful not to go too far and puncture the ear drum though.
It could also be possible that your dog has developed an allergy to something. A lot of times when dogs develop allergies, they rub their ears, chins on furniture or the floor, or they will lick their paws.
If he keeps it up much longer, you may want to check with your vet. He may have something in the ear canal you can't see or may just have a wax buildup that needs to be flushed out professionally.

It is true that you can buy ear wash for dogs. Q-tips can help too. for humans you can buy ear wax removal kits at a drug store for less than a veterinarian. These kits come with a plunger which you use to wash out the cleaner with water. You will need some sort of plunger, but you can make the wash with 2 parts peroxide 1 part rubbing alcohol, and 1 part vinegar. You lay on your side and let the peroxide boil then wash it out with warm but not hot water using high pressure from a plunger or syringe. Obviously it is difficult if not impossible to get a dog to lay on it's side while the peroxide bubbles. It is also difficult to get them to be still while you spray water in their ear high pressure. This is not far from what they will do at the vet if you take them there. Also you can buy something at the vet that you just put in their ear and leave it, but it does not remove the wax, it just dries it up so that it can flake out gradually.
