I bought a really great old cedar chest and would like to redo it, I want to paint it black or white and put black and white photos of my kids. and then put a thick clear coat of hoge poge or something like it, I have seen it done at joes crab shack.. what kiind of stuff should I use ? any advice from pros thanks
Hodge Podge glue can be purchased at Michael's or any craft supply place. Run your photos through the scanner and print out a copy to use. Trim and using a sponge brush coat back of photo and press onto chest. Then dip sponge brush into hodge podge and brush across the front of photo, going off the edges onto the chest. Keep going to you have all the photos in place. You can do this over days.
Let everything dry for 24 hours. Get yourself some clear valathane and another sponge brush and coat the entire chest according the the direction.

Do you mean decoupage? Using Mod Podge glue?
I use this stuff a lot to make game pieces for exhibits because it works so well. But, unless you own a laser jet printer, I would recommend that you might have copies made at a photo lab instead. The pictures will be much clearer and crisper, and won't smudge when the glue is brushed over them.
While you can buy pots of Mod Podge, you can make your own by thinning regular old Elmer's White Glue with water in a 2:1 ratio. You can buy Elmer's glue by the half gallon at art supply stores.

I think you mean Modge Podge, I use it a lot on the doll houses I make. Your going to need a lot of it. At $7.00 a bottle, you'll need about five or more bottles for just one coat. I would use a Modge Podge to do the photos only then a good Marine varnish to do the rest, pain around the pics with the varnish.
