My parents sold their house and are getting rid of everything. They have had this cedar chest forever. It came from my grandmothers attic so it is really old. I can't find any info on it online. Not sure if it is just OLD and should be dumped, or antique and should be preserved.
I think you are asking yourself the wrong question.
The cedar chest is probably worth some money, but the family history it carries is priceless. If it is a decent piece that you like, you will never be able to replace it, simply because you will never have a cedar chest who you will be able to say about "this came from great-grandmother's so-and-so attic, she used to keep her linens in it".
Life is not only about money. Your parents are passing on their memory to you…. I think you are very lucky.

Whether or not it's worth actual cash money is beside the point. The historical value, the family heirloom sentiment, etc, is worth much more than that. Even if it's not worth much money to sell, the family value of it should be worth many times that amount just to hold on to it. Just keep it.
