I just got an old Lane Cedar Chest which I believe may have been stored in a damp basement. To remove the odor, will sanding it take care of the problem? I thought about putting baking soda in it,but wasn't sure if that would also draw out the cedar smell…

Before refinishing, have it appraised. Ask the appraiser which way they feel would be best for the chest. Sometimes leaving it the way it is and just giving it a good cleaning is best.
I have a 1957 and it’s in perfect condition. It’s just another piece of furniture.
Well, the antique world is brand-new to me, and I bought the chest because it will be both pretty and useful in our bedroom.
