I know the story behind it, and I've heard that women used to mostly put linens and dishware and all that in, but is it still the same nowadays? I've heard of girls putting in pretty much anything they want to keep when they move out.
It usually is things that have been past down in the family.

I started to give my children Hand blown Glass Christmas ornaments when they were first born, every year and both of my daughters had put them in their "Hope Chest".
My mother had written her favorite recipes in a cook book form and had given them to my girls too.
What ever you want is fine, But I like the idea of something from relatives.
