Recently, the murders of several Indian students in American universities have made big news in India. Two students were shot dead at LSU in Baton Rouge in an unsolved crime. Another was murdered in North Carolina.

In Mumbai (Bombay), there was a serious gang crime problem in the 1990's. My uncle was a police official there. The response was to form dozens of small cells of officers called "encounter squads." Each encounter squad was armed with Chinese SKS clones (automatic rifle), a vest with iron plate over the chest, and a 9mm handgun.

They would dress casual, and lurk in areas with known criminal activity. Then upon sight of criminal action, they would burst forward and gun down all the participants. These shootings were always ruled justified by the coroner, because the coroner understood the process.

In the first 100 days of encounter squads, over 2,400 enemies were gunned down, and crime plunged.

I think this can work in the US also? Why not?
Of course, this should be even easier in the US, because police departments have more money for better weapons. Rather than cheap Chinese SKS clones, police can use high-quality H&K MP5 rifles, like commandos do in world militaries.

In the US the criminals are protected by a wide variety of laws, statutes and rights. Often the only protection victims receive is the dirt over their grave.

If the solution you offer was deemed legally justifiable, I would have zero problem with it. I deal with repeat violent offenders on a regular basis. With the continued economic "issues" the state's budget for corrections has been cut again resulting in less scum sentenced to jail time and more to "community corrections".

Last month we had a gang banger kill a 22 year old college grad. Banger was shooting at other bangers and grad gets hit by a stray bullet. Banger was still on the street despite being on probation for felon in possession of a handgun and felony menacing, and awaiting trial on six counts of armed robbery/felon in possession of a handgun/2nd degree assault with a deadly weapon etc….and people wonder why innocent people continue to die on America's streets.
