lately on occasion, my 8 month old chinese crested powder puff has been rubbing his ear on furniture. My mom checked his ears and they are normal, his ears aren't funny smelling or have pus in his ears and hes not putting his paws on his ears either. Whats wrong with him?

Some type of bug is making small holes in a wooden chest and sawdust type residue is on the floor. Cleaned it up and it's back the next day. What is it and how do I get rid of them?
seal the holes shut with wood putty or tape or caulk.this should suffocate them.
